Plants and Seeds

Plants

Often, very late in the growing season, Indianapolis-area nurseries have plants available at little or no cost to community gardens. The plants are likely to be root-bound and stressed, but can be revived.

Seeds

  • Natures Crossroads (Bloomington) often makes donations of seeds to Community Gardens. Contact them at support@naturescrossroads.com or (317) 327-9612 in January preceding your growing season.
  • The Purdue University/Marion County Extension office generally has seeds available for Community Gardens. Contact Marion County Master Gardeners, www.IndyMG.org, at (317) 275-9292 or marionmg@purdue.edu.
  • Contact seed companies such as Fedco (http://www.fedcoseeds.com/) or Seed Savers Exchange (http://www.seedsavers.org/) for donations of previous year’s seeds.
