Upcoming events

    • 02 Jun 2012
    • 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM
    • Fall Creek Gardens, 3005 Central Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46205

Did you know that a small 8' x 8' storage shed roof could be used to capture TWENTY gallons of water from a 1/2 inch of rainfall?

Imagine the hundreds of gallons of free water that you could collect from the roof of your house!

Learn how--and take home your completed barrel--on June 2nd, with Andrew Cochran of Circle City Rain Barrels.

For a workshop fee of $40, you will build a rain barrel step-by-step, and all necessary equipment will be provided:

    • recycled 55-gallon food-grade barrel
    • plumbing hardware
    • detailed instructions and hands-on learning

Take what you've learned home, along with your new rain barrel--and build one for every downspout at your house.  Grow your garden with rainwater this year!  Not only will you save money on your water bills, but you will be helping to improve our rivers, streams, and other waterways.

Space is LIMITED, so register soon and reserve your place.  Tell your friends, bring your neighbors, and join us!

    • 30 Jun 2012
    • 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM
    • Fall Creek Gardens and Unleavened Bread Cafe, 3001 Central Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46205

           Bugs.

    They get a bad name...

...but do they all deserve it?

Steve Mayer, Purdue Extension Educator and Master Gardening program instructor, will be ready on June 30th to help us identify the most common garden insects in our area.

Join us, and find out for yourself:  friend, or foe?

We will start inside at Unleavened Bread Cafe with a slide show and discussion, and then move out into the garden to collect and identify insects among our plants.  This is a wonderful opportunity to learn which bugs you want to attract to your garden, and which ones you should make sure to discourage.  Bring your questions!  Bring a friend!

Register today and see what all the...buzz...is about!

    • 14 Jul 2012
    • 10:00 AM - 11:00 PM
    • Fall Creek Gardens, 3005 Central Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46205

Imagine a beautiful garden a few steps from your door...

...sprinkled with colorful flowers and humming with busy bees.

Now step forward. Trail your hands through the leaves, with their wide range of textures and shades of green.

Stop to breathe in the wonderfully fragrant air.  Then, take your scissors, snip here and there, and bring some of this gorgeous garden into the kitchen...and onto your plate!

Ready to make this dream a reality?

Please join us on July 14th and learn how to grow a culinary herb garden that you and your family will enjoy for years to come.  Master Gardener Julie Iverson will discuss her favorite kitchen herbs:  which varieties, how to grow them, what maintenance they require, when to harvest...and even a few serving suggestions!

Humans have a long and loving history with herbs--from early cave paintings in France, to ancient Egyptian records, to the recipes of modern-day gourmets.   What are you waiting--why not join in the fun?  Register today!

Do you dream of having fresh food from your garden all year?  We sure do!

But, let's face it.  Autumn is coming.  We need to live somewhere a bit more tropical for that to happen, right?

    Well, yes.

    (And no.)

Believe it or not, but NOW is the time to plant your garden to last through the winter.  If you provide an established fall garden with a bit of cold-weather protection, you can still be harvesting in January...just make sure to brush off the snow!

Master Gardener Ginny Roberts has a wealth of gardening knowledge and experience--and she is ready to teach us how to plan and plant a bountiful fall garden.  Don't miss this informative session...and get ready to enjoy your garden well into the winter.
